Tour Details

We start the tour by heading for the south coast through moss covered lava fields with volcanoes on both sides. We stop and take a good view over the south coast with great landmarks like the Westman Islands, Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano Hekla.

We reach the coast and drive through one of the oldest villages in Iceland, make a stop by the wild Atlantic Ocean and look at the birdlife (in the summer) before we proceed northwards into the countryside.  We drive up along river Sogið to the oldest power plant in the area, Ljósafossstöð, and continue to crater Kerið, formed in an eruption some 6700 years ago, where we make a stop.

Our tour leads us through agricultural areas where the geothermal heat is used for growing fruit and vegetables. Our lunch stop will be at a very special restaurant in a greenhouse where lunch is enjoyed among tomato plants.   From these areas you have a good view over known historical sites, such as Skálholt bishopric.

And finally we drop you off at your hotel in Reykjavik after a tour that covered all the main sights of the Golden Circle as well the crater Kerid and a highland visit in a 4x4 truck.
