Tour Description

Tour Schedule

We drive away from Reykjavik and head through the tunnel below Hvalfjordur continuing through a town called Borgarnes.  One of the first proper features of Snæfellsnes is Gerduberg, a beautiful wall of beautiful basalt columns that form geometric patterns in the cliffs.

Next we will drive through Stykkisholmur, a beautiful fishing village that used to be a trade and transportation center during the time when Iceland was under the rule of Denmark.

Then we’ll drive through Grundarfjordur, the town right next to mount Kirkjufell, that is one of Iceland’s best known mountains.  Near by are two gorgeus waterfalls, Kirkjufellsarfoss and Grundarfoss.

Next we would be going right next to Snæfellsjökull glacier, the place that was the inspiration behind Jules Verne’s best seller Journey To the Centre of the Earth.  Surrounding the glacier is a big lava field but don’t worry, this volcano has not errupted in 1.700 years or so.  We could take a walk towards the glacier,  it’s also possible to take a snowmobile tour up on to the glacier.

Just a few minutes away are two black sand beaches named Dritvik and Djúpalónssandur where you’ll find debris from two different shipwrecks a few decades ago.   You’ll also find big stones that were used to test a mans strength back in the day and to see if a man was fit to work at sea or not.

Lóndrangar could be the next stop.  Strange yet beautiful “rock pinnacles” standing 61- and 75 m / 200- and 246 ft high.

Driving a little bit futher we’ll see the tiny fishing villages of Hellnar and Arnarstapi.  Both are well worth visiting for the coast line and thriving bird life.

Snæfellsnes has so many amazing places to see that it’s almost too much to do in one day there are even way more places than the ones listed down here.  But we will find what your interests are and we’ll shape the best possible private day tour for you and your family / group.

For smaller groups 1-4 persons, we operate in a 2016 Mercedes GLE or 2016 Toyota Land Cruiser 150. For larger groups we operate in a 2016 Mercedes V-Class.
